Because the tools are model-based, developers do not have to type program code, eliminating syntax errors. Data and business models are checked and thoroughly diagnosed for completeness and consistency by a built-in knowledge engine, which is driven by "best programming practices" rules. Once the models are validated, a generation target is selected. The target is defined by the operating system, database management system, programming language, transaction monitor and communications middleware. The validated models are then used to generate program code for entire applications.
